Most reggae music is religious music.  This is a ragga jungle competition.

But...  You don't have to use that part of the vocal.  "Creative sampling is encouraged."

Your choice, but you're a pretty good producer, so I think that you're missing out.  wink

You should never sample lyrics that you don't agree with, though.  Good job having principles.

But...  I think that it was racist of you to qualify your statements by saying that you aren't racist.  You just had to say your thing about religion, and I doubt that anyone would have called you a racist for that.  The fact that you thought that it was necessary means that you were thinking it.  I'm telling the thought police, and you're going to be put in one of Obama's reeducation camps so that you will be a better consumer for the NWO.  tongue

Seriously, though...  Have you never sampled any lyrics with Rastafarian content?  The stuff of yours that I have heard had some femals vocal stabs and such, but I can't remember offhand whether or not you used any ragga lyrics in what I heard...  Have you really avoided that altogether?

You use clash vocals, but not conscious lyrics.  I see.  Nothing wrong with that.

So a white person can't imagine his personal god as being black?  Is that why JC is always Scandanavian in European art, because white people can't have a Semitic god, either?  Keep to yuor own kind, right?

I know plenty of white Rastafarians.  You don't have to be a giant black dude to embrace the Rasta way of life.

"Until the colour of a man's skin is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes..."

Assuming that every white Rasta has the mindset of a college kid rebelling against his parents' religion, not knowing what he is doing, and coming across as a poser is a ridiculous and unfair stereotype.  That video was incredibly funny, but to associate it with the simple fact that " half the people on this site are white" is pretty fucking rude.

I was kidding when I called you a racist.  I thought that the ":P" made that pretty clear.  Now, though, I think that you are being pretty unfair to people simply based on the "unfortunate" commination of their skin color and their religion.

How would a white kid from upstate New York feel if an Arab Christian came up to him and called him a douche for worshipping a Middle Eastern god?  Insulted, I would imagine...

I'm not Rasta.  I'm not anything, really.  I do, however, take offense at someone casting dispursions, even unintentional ones, upon people simply because they, for whatever reason, disagree with their religion.

Sentient Origin wrote:

Then don't, but all that you had to sday (If anything) was that you didn't feel comfortable writing a song that had religious lyrics with which you do not agree.

I was kidding about you being racist, but your defensive reply has made you look sort of mean.

I'm still not calling you a racist, by the way.

First off, a religious debate with me would be the furthest thing from easy.  You debating me on anything having to do with religion would be like Rastawalka challenging Tester to a clash.

Second, I wasn't saying shit about the validity of any religion.  I was saying that your response to my joke was extremely disrespectful to white Rastafarians, and Rastas in general.

If you didn't care who believes what, then you would never have typed "an the reason i wrote the blak king most high things is cuz half the people on this site are white an that choice of tune just it made me think of that video of the white rasta dude sumone posted a while ago."

You may not be saying that someone's belief in Rasta is wrong, but you did directly imply that you find the concept of a white Rasta to be ridiculous and stupid.

I think that you need to apologize.

If you have no desire to be a man and admit that what you said was hurtful, then yeah, this particular conversation is over, and this thread should go back on track.  smile

first off u cant begin to make a comparison of who i am like ina debate becuz u have never had one with me. second i said nothing directly towrds white rastas i simply said that wen i heard those vocals thats wat it reminded me of. i havew met quite a few *white Rastas" but most of the people on this site arnt *White Rastas* i am good friends with one of them. its not my fault wat i said hit a nerve so i dont feel i have any reason to apollogize cuz i didnt directly attack anyone i simply made a statement that u didnt like.

LMFAO.  Ok...  Whenever you have time to read a few wikipedia articles, go ahead and start up a thread where we can debate anything regarding the subject of religion.

Sentient Origin wrote:

Wait...  If your comments weren't directed at white Rastas, then they were just directed at white people in general?  So your issue was never with the theological implications of the song lyrics, they were with white people using lyrics that talk about a black person?  I don't get what you're saying...  You aren't making much sense, to tell the truth.

And yes, it isn't your fault that you hit a nerve.  My feelings are my own, and are therefore my responsibility.  I don't feel as if you need to apologize to me at all.  However, I do think that you should apologize to anyone that read what you wrote, because your comments could very easily be interpreted as rude and bigoted towards a portion of the population of this board, even if you didn't "directly attack" anyone.  I mean...  How is it less mean to say "White Rastafarians are all retarded college stoners like Ras Trent," than to say "DJ ________ is stupid becuase he's a white Rasta"?

One of those statements is bigoted, and the other is antagonistic.  They are both mean, rude, and totally uncalled for.

Sentient Origin wrote:

"Some of my best friends are white Rastas!"

Just remember...  This was all started because I made an innocent joke playing off your responses in that Obama thread.  I didn't think that you were doing anything wrong at all until you replied in a very defensive tone proving that my joke was actually not a joke at all.

Anyway...  This thread is not about this juvenile argument.  If you want to keep discussing it, hit me up in a PM.  Otherwise, it's obviously over, because you won't apologize or admit any wrongdoing, and I won't ever be ok with someone making a bigoted remark.

It takes a big man to apologize for something.  It takes a bigger man to  actually admit that he did something wrong.  ...All that I asked you to do was apologize.  You could have just typed "I'm sorry.  I didn't realize that what I said could be interpreted as offensive."  If you want to just keep saying "I didn't do anything wrong, so fuck off," then I think that there isn't any reason to continue this discussion.  ...Unless you want to talk in PM's, because I think that you do have a lot to learn about interpersonal communication.

lol im not gonna appologize for something that u feel is a bigoted remark. if u wanna think i have something against white people be my guest. seriously tho u over annalized everything i said an got offened even after i explained why i said what i said so yeah anyone that might have been offened can clearly read my reasons for saying so. hence no reason to apologize
